Apteka.ru processes 40% of all e-pharmacy sales
Data Insight conducted joint market research together with IQVIA into Russia’s online pharmacy market in 2019.
Apteka.ru, which allows consumers to look up and order pharmacy goods, came out on top as the industry’s clear market leader in terms of sales compared to other online pharmacies, with a 40% market share in 2019. In addition, the Apteka.ru application was downloaded more than 1 million times in 2019. The online pharmacy apteka-ot-sklada.ru took second place, and eapteka.ru came third.
According to the research, 12% of all online orders placed in the Russian e-commerce market in 2019 through the 1,000 largest online stores were orders from online pharmacies. Their share of online sales was 5%.
The value of pharmaceutical product retail sales increased by a total of 5.1% in 2019, and there was a 1% decrease in the sale of packaged medicines. That being the case, the number of orders placed online through internet pharmacies grew by 98% in 2019.
In 2019, consumers placed 51.6 million orders worth a total of 86.3 billion rubles (92% more than in 2018) through online pharmacies, while the amount spent according to the average receipt fell by 3% to 1,670 rubles, and the conversion rate reached almost 22%.

Online stores that mainly sell glasses and contact lenses, medical equipment, food supplements or other non-medicinal health products were not included in the research published, and general online stores that sell a range of different goods including medicine or other health products were also excluded from the scope of this study.
